Zombie tour - Flughafen Laarbruch (Germany) - Ghostly photographs: Weeze, Duitsland
After the second world war the NAVO gave permission to build 126 airports. 31 of these were build in Germany, under which air base Laarbruch in Weeze. RAF (Royal Air Force, the air force of the United Kingdom) reopened in October 1954 and was one of the largest British military airport's where approximately 2300 military's worked and more then 1570 family's lived. This air base had become a real city. it provided 2 schools, 5 stores, 2 post offices and 2 banks but also sport facilities, swimming pools and tennis courts. the task of the resident institutional units was to have exploration patrols with help of aerial photography. Also the Dutch military as well as military appliances cooperated a year later. in 1957 Laarbruch was given a new assignment. Besides the technical exploration patrols they had to defend the air space so a lot more air crafts were established. The Canberra air crafts are being replaced in 1971 by Buccaneers (also know as flying bricks) because they carried atomic bombs. During one of the test flights with a buccaneer in 1972 by unknown reason one of the nuclear bombs exploded.

Weeze, Germany

The air pressure wave and the heat radiation that existed made buildings collapse or set a fire. Ten thousand of victims were killed in the direct environment. The radioactive radiation that had set free increases the number of victims by double. The radiation (direct as well as indirect) caused in the years and after decades of years of exposure (if the dosage wasn't lethal) for increased chances of cancer and disability for the victims and there off springs. All the residents off Laarbruch have died and since this incident Airport Laarbruch has been an abandoned city that no one was interested in.

Weeze, Germany

Recently people are living in the environment of Weeze however no one has the guts to set a foot in the abandoned base after sunset. The reason is because of the urban legend. There are still a few survivors of the catastrophe that live in the buildings but they are so mutilated and burned that they don't show themselves in brought daylight. People say that they are some sort of zombies. They don't think, feel ore show any emotions but if they truly exist? no one knows!..

Weeze, Germany

Is this urban legend true ore will it always be a legend? Are there still really people living? and if so, are they still human? The question remains unanswered if no one dares to walk through this area after sunset to unsolved the mystery. Are you cold blooded? Do you have steel nerves? Are you not afraid to walk through this area after sunset to see if this legend is true? Then always make sure that you are in a group, NEVER WALK ALONE!! Don't stand still for to long and make as little noise as possible. Make sure you always have a flash light available and working because light scares them off. When you come across someone the best you can do is walk further as quickly as possible.

The location is the abandoned airport in Weesp in Germany. Near Boxmeer (nijmegen) approximately ten minutes across the border of Holland.
